Program Benefits
The Kenan Music Scholarship is the premier scholarship of the UNC-Chapel Hill Department of Music, awarded to four incoming students each year. This generous scholarship offers:
- a four-year full-tuition scholarship (including student fees, room, and board)
- additional financial support for musical enrichment activities (e.g. summer programs, masterclasses, travel, research)
- workshops and masterclasses with internationally renowned performers (recent Kenan Program guest artists include Frederica von Stade, Anthony Dean Griffey, Andrés Cárdenes, Nelita True, and Maestro Gerard Schwarz)
- mentoring from distinguished Department of Music faculty and a dedicated Kenan Music Scholars faculty advisor
- free attendance at world-class performances through Carolina Performing Arts (2012-13 performances included The Silk Road Ensemble with Yo-Yo Ma, Joshua Bell, Valery Gergiev and the Mariinsky Orchestra, The Cleveland Orchestra, and the Joffrey Ballet)
- opportunity to combine musical studies with coursework (or a second major) in one of the nation’s most prestigious research universities
